ASSAULT OF POVERTY

Poverty assails and allows no provisions

For body, mind, and soul-

a condition that feels like

a judgment from God.

To be bereft of money for necessities

is to be victimized by a system

that is no respecter of persons,

or only of those who have played their cards

right to acquire their disproportionate gain.

Our economic status quo is violent.

It is torture, aided, and abetted

by government and the high courts.

Democracy is a farce.

Capitalism prostitutes and persecutes,

taking resources and allowing the few

to hoard that which was intended

for the common good.

Poor, poor people and no one

is there for them.

Those who attempt to speak for them

are ignored or ridiculed.

God is worshipped faithfully

in our temples of capitalism

where the moneychangers

have set up their shops,

but that God cannot

save the poor among us

for Pharoah maintains the reins

of power and control of their lives.

He uses his story of growing up in a dysfunctional home, his degrees in psychology, and theology, and training in humor therapy to touch audiences with his Laughter for Life program, impersonating many beloved and infamous characters.
